Psychomotor Therapy Training Australia

A Body-Based Approach to Trauma Therapy

Psychomotor Therapy (Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor, or PBSP) is a body-based, trauma-informed therapeutic approach that supports meaningful and lasting change by working with attachment, early developmental needs, and the lived experience of the body.

At Psychomotor PBSP Australia, we provide training for therapists, counsellors, psychologists, and mental health professionals across Australia who are seeking to deepen their relational and experiential practice.

Our programs support practitioners to move beyond insight alone—integrating body-based awareness, emotional processing, and structured therapeutic experiences into their clinical work.

What is Psychomotor Therapy (PBSP)?

Psychomotor Therapy, known internationally as PBSP (Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor), was developed by Albert Pesso and Diane Boyden-Pesso.

It is a structured, relational approach that integrates:

  • attachment theory

  • neuroscience

  • somatic awareness

  • symbolic and experiential processes

At its core, this approach recognises that many psychological difficulties are shaped by unmet developmental needs, including:

  • safety and protection

  • nurturance and support

  • belonging and place

  • the ability to be oneself within appropriate limits

Rather than only revisiting the past, Psychomotor Therapy creates carefully guided experiences that allow these needs to be symbolically met—supporting new emotional and relational patterns to emerge.

Why Body-Based Trauma Training Matters

Many therapists are trained to work cognitively or verbally, yet trauma is often held and expressed through the body.

Body-based approaches such as Psychomotor Therapy support practitioners to:

  • work with implicit memory and early relational experience

  • track moment-to-moment emotional and somatic shifts

  • respond to clients in a more attuned and regulated way

  • facilitate deeper, more integrated therapeutic change

This form of training is particularly relevant for those working with:

  • complex trauma

  • attachment disruption

  • developmental injury

  • clients who feel “stuck” in traditional talk therapy

How This Approach Is Different

Psychomotor Therapy offers a unique combination of:

  • precision and structure

  • relational depth

  • embodied awareness

A key element of the work is microtracking—the careful tracking of moment-to-moment shifts in the client’s experience—allowing therapy to unfold with clarity, attunement, and safety.

Rather than focusing only on insight, this approach supports the creation of new internal experiences that can transform long-standing emotional patterns.
